Take A Walk, You Can Lose Weight

Losing weight is not an easy task to accomplish as it requires much hard work and commitment from the individual in order to succeed. This is something that has to be done on a daily basis if you want to shed those extra pounds. The main reasons why most diets fail is the lack of commitment and motivation by the individual over the long-term. Exercise is not something that a lot of people view as a fun thing, but you must force yourself to get up and get moving every day if you want to lose weight.

As with all exercise programs, walking is not without its down sides. The most important one is that it is going to take you a lot longer to lose weight through walking than other weight-loss-programs. It may take a few months before you start reaping the rewards of you efforts. You can speed things up some by walking faster or going further, but if you are going to stick to basic walking, it is going to take a long time to lose.

A study conducted by the American National Institutes of Health discovered that the average adult should take 10,000 steps per day in order to maintain a healthy weight. This means that if you want to lose weight, you will have to take in excess of 12,000 steps a day to lose or you could choose to cut back more on food. It is estimated that this would equal to walking between 4 and 6 miles a day and this could take you up to 90 minutes to complete.

The key to losing weight through walking is to make it a regular part of your daily exercise routine. This is something that you should not have to force yourself to do, because if this is the case, chances are you will fail in the long run. You may find it easier to adopt a walking lifestyle if you live in a walking friendly area, but if you do not, it is still possible to do if you have the determination to succeed.

Losing Weight in the Natural Way

Lose weight naturally
Lose Weight
In your online research, you might have come across various websites that provide you with tips to help losing weight. If you have merely glanced at the content of those websites, you will still be able to discover that all of those websites provide the solution by weight loss products. The fact of the matter is that there are no shortcuts, which can help losing weight along with providing long-lasting results.

Even if you manage to shed a few pounds by means of some strict diet plans, using weight loss products or following a rigorous exercise regimen, you will regain that padding back in your belly in a short time after you resume your normal routine. The difficult part is not losing weight, but to maintain that lower weight on a long term basis. I speak from my personal experiences and what I have witnessed from other people over the course of my life.

If you are ready for the long haul, you don’t need to worry as it is fairly simple to lose weight and stay slim for the rest of your life. Here are some tips that help losing weight.

Your Daily Diet
  • You do not need to lose weight by starving. It is harmful in the long run, and you might develop chronic illnesses because of your diet. All you need to do is cut the quantity of your daily consumption by roughly one-fourth and divide the remainder of your daily intake into four or five meals, rather than the conventional three. It will help you stay energised and also boost your metabolism. Keep some fruits such as apples and bananas with you when you are at work or school. Whenever you feel the urge to stuff your face, eat the fruit which will kill your craving and the danger will be gone.
  • Change the quality of your daily diet. Eat more fruit and vegetables and foods full of fibre such as whole wheat bread and bran cereal.
  • Do not deprive yourself of the opportunity to have a meal of your liking occasionally, but restrict the frequency to a maximum of once a fortnight.
Exercise Routine
  • Exercise on a daily basis will help losing weight. However, you should restrict exercise to a level that you can sustain over a long period. As a general rule, workout on alternate days or maybe twice a week and do different forms of exercises in each session to maximise the benefit on your body. Start with basic gym exercises and a light cardio work out.
  • Do whatever strikes your fancy. If you enjoy swimming, jogging, working-out, cycling, or any other form of exercise, go right ahead as they all can provide your overweight body with a solution by weight loss.
  • On the days that you feel up to it, go the distance and put in the extra hours. It will help increase your motivation and help you adhere to your goals.
  • For the short distances to the local grocery or the park, please walk, don’t drive. The theory is to make these small changes in your lifestyle, and as a whole, they will help losing weight.
It would be beneficial to share your goals with friends and family and form a supportive group. It has to be a change in your lifestyle, and so, you will need their help. Who knows, you might inspire them and help losing weight by bring a positive change in their lives too.

How To Get Motivated To Exercise

Even though most people are aware of how significant exercise is to weight reduction, many have trouble getting motivated to do it. There are others who never can seem to find the time to exercise. Reality is that developing an exercise routine can be difficult when you are starting out. The key is developing a lifestyle that is accommodating to an exercise routine.

One thing is for sure: you need to get involved with an exercise plan that will keep your attention and your motivation. In other words, I want you to be involved in exercises that you enjoy. This will make it natural to get into the daily routine since you want to do it.

You can even stay home and exercise. For many people this is key because the time and effort it takes to go to a gym often precludes participation in an exercise program. I use a spare bedroom, but I don’t have fancy equipment as you might expect. I don’t need it and neither do you. What you do need is a balance ball and weights that can be adjusted. A mat helps as well as a stationary bicycle. That’s it. You don’t need a lot to get a fat loss program going. By having a way to exercise at home, you will find that it is easy to work out when you don’t have to go across town. The truth is that many people don’t exercise because they don’t like where they exercise.

What I want you to think about is what might make your exercise time more fun. Whatever you do, you will find that building it on the foundation of activities you enjoy is the key to developing a lifetime of fitness. That's what helps me stay motivated everyday.

You can begin your fitness program together with a good diet. You can find tips for both in the here.

Energetic Walking Is Going To Do Wonders For Your Metabolic Fitness

Metabolism is what can determine if someone is obese or not. The few of us with quick metabolisms burn calories at a higher than typical rate. Or you are stuck with a slow metabolism, which causes you to look at food and put on pounds.
Metabolism is the clockwork of our system, which decides how rapidly nutrients are assimilated by the body. It’s the rate at which our bodies burn up the calories in the three food groups: protein, carbohydrate and fat. Calories are burned up more rapidly when the metabolism is faster, so a good way to lose fat is to find a way of quickening the metabolism of your body. It’s simple to work at home with a walking regimen.

We all know that walking is a good exercise, but not many make a daily practice from walking. What a lot of people do not know is that metabolic fitness can be improved a great deal by walking. It’s well known that walking for exercise each day is hugely beneficial for an individual’s health. The more strenuously you walk the bigger the improvement in your rate of metabolism. It is an effective method for slimming down without the risk of joint and other strains posed by its speed-up cousin, running. For maximum effectiveness you need to combine it with a healthy diet and limit yourself to the recommended calorie intake. If you fail to cut your consumption, you will need to add further exercises.

When you’re thinking about a walking program, you must come up with a sensible goal first. It has to be a high enough target that it does some good, but low enough that it can be attained. Your goal has to be quantifiable, like 30 minutes per day, or a particular number of miles. Choose your desired weight goal, and maintain a check on the progress you make. As you raise your exercise quota, in time or distance, so will the rate at which your metabolism improves. You don’t want to injure or hurt any part of your body, so do this increasing a little at a time.

There are numerous benefits to boosting your metabolic rate, such as the health of your heart. Weight loss will be progressively increased, along with improvement in blood flow and blood pressure. Your body’s ratio of excess fat will decrease as will your waist measurement. An improvement in metabolic fitness through walking also leads to an improvement in all-around health. Mental benefits also accrue when success is attained with a change in diet and fitness. Walking briskly and eating a healthy diet will give you a feeling of well-being, and if you add a better-looking body from shedding pounds, your self-esteem can only increase.

With the increase of obesity, walking has become a more popular solution. It is not only a low impact activity, but it is non-strenuous and gives you plenty of benefits.

Exercise - Tips to Get Started

Okay, so you've decided to start exercising, but you are bewildered by all the types of exercise programs available. You see these machines, weights, people dancing, jumping, kickboxing and stepping. Then there are all the sports out there. It can be confusing finding the right mix of exercise for you.

Actually, most exercise can be divided into three types:
#1 General physical activity
#2 Aerobic exercise
#3 Resistance (strength training) exercise

Exercise Type #1 - General Physical Activity

General Physical Activity refers to the exercise one gets from simply increasing the effort we take to do daily tasks. Let's be honest as a society we have become sedate and, at least on a physical level, lazy. We reach for the remote to turn on everything from the TV to the stereo system. We circle a parking lot for 15 minutes trying to find a parking space close to the door when we could have walked from the back of the parking lot in five. We take elevators and escalators to go up one floor. We play video games with our kids instead of more active physical games.

One way to slim down is to simply rev up your daily physical activity. It is also a good way to get started. Here are a few tips to get you started. I'm sure you can think of others:

Tip #1 - Take three 10 minute walks a day: This will burn 100-150 calories a day depending on your weight, gender and how fast you walk. Be sure this is a brisk walk and not a stroll. Also don't stop and sit down part way through it. You can increase the workout by adding light weights. Carry two 1 or 2 pound weights and swing your arms while walking to add a little resistance.

Tip #2 - Take the Stairs: If you only have to go up one floor, try taking the stairs. Stair climbing is great aerobic exercise and is good for the leg muscles. You can even make it a game of trying to get to the next floor before the elevator arrives. Most of the time you will be faster than the elevator. Of course, be careful you don't slip and fall so don't run up the stairs or skip stairs on your way up. Since you burn twice the calories going up stairs as going down, you could moderate this one by using the stairs going up and the elevator coming down.

Tip #3 - Park further away: Super simple way to add a mini workout to your daily life. Don't park right by the door of the place you are going. Park at the other end of the parking lot or park 2-3 blocks away. I live just 5 blocks from the college. So when the weather's good I walk to school each day. It gives me about 20 minutes a day of exercise. And considering the parking situation at the school, especially during the first few weeks of the semester, I probably get to my classes sooner than if I spent all day circling the parking lot looking for a parking space.

Tip #4 - Play with your kids: Talk about an enjoyable way to get some exercise and improve your family life at the same time. Put away the video games and TV, pick up a ball and bat or a badminton racket or even a croquet mallet. Get anything which gets you and your kids up and moving. Run with them. Throw the ball to them. Play hide and seek. Let them wear you out. It's good for you and it's good for them as you spend time with them and teach them by your example the value of regular exercise.

Tip #5 - Take up a sport: Someone described a football game as being 22,000 people in dire need of exercise watching 22 people in dire need of a rest. Why not stop being a spectator and become a participant? Join a tennis club or a city league sport team. Learn to golf, play basket ball with your friends, coach a little league team. Let the fun of competing also help you get the exercise you need.

Exercise Type #2 - Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic Exercise is any exercise which raises the heart and respiration rates. Aerobic exercise is good for the heart and is the type of exercise which builds endurance and burns the fat.

Aerobic Exercise can be sub-divided into two types. High Impact and Low or No Impact. High Impact exercises are those which involve jumping, stomping, running, etc. So, exercises such as jogging, running, playing sports like basketball or tennis, step or dance aerobics and some forms of kickboxing are examples of High Impact aerobics.

Low Impact aerobics are those where you do not hit the floor with a good deal of force. This would include walking, swimming, water aerobics, elliptical trainers, cross-country skiing machines, rowing and bicycling.

Obviously, if you have knee or ankle problems you should consider a low impact option. Even something simple like taking a 20 minute brisk walk a day can prove highly beneficial.
Experts say you should do at least 20 minutes a day three days a week of aerobic exercise.

Exercise Type #3 - Resistance Exercise

Resistance Exercise burns less fat, but it does build muscle and "sculpts" the body. If you want to lose the inches in the right places resistance exercise is essential. Another good benefit of building up muscle is that muscle metabolizes calories more efficiently than other types of tissue. Thus, developing your muscles helps your body burn fat all day long. Examples of resistance exercise include floor exercises (like crunches, leg lifts, Pilates exercises, etc.), weight training, lunges, "Nautilus" machines, push ups and pull ups. Doing resistance exercises for about 20 minutes a day 2-3 days a week is a good regimen.

Some experts suggest alternating aerobic and resistance exercise by doing aerobics Monday, Wednesday and Friday and resistance on Tuesday and Thursday. Personally, I do an hour of aerobics on Monday and Wednesday and an hour of resistance on Tuesday. The other days I walk or do exercises at home for about 15-30 minutes a day.

As with any type of weight management regimen, check with your doctor about any personal health concerns which might affect your choice of exercise.

10 Exercises to Get Your Rear in Gear

Are you happy with your butt? Most of us aren't. They're too small, too big, too saggy, too flabby...this list goes on. The right cardio exercise and weight training activities (like squats and deadlifts) can make a difference in your backside and help you get those buns of steel. Find out the best cardio and strength training exercises for strengthening and firming up your rear.

Tight butts require lots of work. Here are ten exercises to keep your butt looking good:
1.      Squats
Squats are one of the best exercises you can do for your hips, butt and thighs. There are many different types of squats, including the Chair Squat pictured here. Stand with feet hip-width apart and squat, keeping back straight, abs in and knees behind your toes. Let your butt lightly touch chair and squeeze butt to stand up. Repeat for 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps and add weights for more intensity.
2.      Lunge
This lunge will really challenge you since you will use the standing leg for balance. Stand with left foot resting on a paper plate. Bend the right leg while sliding the left foot back into a lunge position, keeping the right knee behind the toe, torso upright and abs in. Slowly slide left foot back to starting position and repeat 8-12 times. Switch legs and repeat on each leg for 2-3 sets.
3.      Hip-Extension
Feel the burn in your hamstrings and glutes with this exercise. On a step or platform, lie facedown with hips on the edge of the step, legs straight with toes resting lightly on the floor. Squeeze the glutes and hamstrings and straighten the legs until they are level with the hips. Hold for 2-3 seconds, and lower letting toes lightly touch the floor. Repeat for 2-3 sets of 8-12 repetitions
4.      Outer-Thigh-Leg-Lift
Note--there is no true 'outer thigh.' When you work your outer thigh, you're actually working your butt! This exercise can be done standing or lying on your side. While standing, simply lift the leg out to the side, a few feet off the floor. Keep hip, knee and foot in line and foot flexed. Repeat 8-12 times on each leg. For more intensity, add a 1-5 pound ankle weight
5.      Deadlift
Deadlifts are great for your hamstrings, butt and lower back, but form is critical! Stand with feet hip-width apart, weight in front of thighs. Keeping back flat and abs in, tip forward from the hips and lower your torso until bar hits mid-shin. Squeeze butt to raise back up. Keep the bar close to your legs through the entire movement--don't bend the knees! Do 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps.
6.      Hiking
Hiking burns tons of calories because you're typically going up steep mountains and maybe even getting into thin air, which requires lots of energy. Also, walking up an incline automatically gets your glutes more involved and, if you're wearing a backpack, you're really getting a workout. Plus, you get to see nature at its best. A 140-lb person burns about 390 calories in about an hour!
7.      Biking
Riding a bike is great for your heart and it also targets almost every muscle in your hips, thighs and butt. On a stationary bike, alternate 3 minutes at 70-80 RPM with 2 minutes at 100-110 RPM for a calorie-blasting 30 minute workout. You can also try Spinning at the gym or riding outside. Gear up to really work your glutes! A 140-lb person burns 335 calories in 45 minutes.
8.      Running
Running, like walking is accessible, easy to learn, reduces stress, helps in weight loss, and it makes you feel good. Plus, it really works your butt, especially when you add a few hills to your regular running route. Sprints are another option for folks wanting to both burn more calories and tighten up the old tush. A 140-lb person burns 475 calories during a 45 minute jog.
9.      Kickboxing
Kickboxing was a hot item back in the day, but it's still a great workout. Controlled kicks work your hips, thighs and butt while complex combinations that include punches will target your abs to make them stronger. A 140-lb woman will burn up to 500 calories with 45 minutes of kickboxing.
10.  Walking
Walking is easy: you can do it anywhere, anytime with no special equipment. There's no learning curve and it's something you can incorporate all day long. If you walk up hills, you can really target your glutes and, if you pick up the intensity, you'll burn some of that extra flab off your buns! A 140-lb person burns about 300 calories an hour during a brisk walk.
